Valentine’s Value

Christmas is over, and gone are the turkeys, tinsel, and trinkets, to be replaced with roses, chocolates, and overpriced champagne!

This year however, with a national lockdown in full swing, it’s not like you can book a table somewhere and pretend it’s been planned for months.

But don’t worry! Most supermarkets offer a Valentine’s meal deal, and here is a list of some of the available options you can use to impress your loved one.

Tesco Finest Valentine’s Day Meal Deal

Cost – £15

What’s Included? Starter, Main, Side, Dessert, and a Drink

Tesco has not changed much about their meal deal this year; however, they have reduced the price from £20 to £15. Wicked Kitchen has been bought back again to provide vegan options.

You can begin your romantic evening with a choice of four delicious starters, including the vegan crispy mushrooms.

Offering everything from steak to salmon, chicken to a vegan wellington, there is something for everyone here with seven main options and six sides to choose from.

End your meal on a high with one of the five dessert options, and wash it down with a range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Morrisons Best Dine In For Two Meal Deal

Cost – £15

What’s included? – Starter, Main, Two Sides, Dessert, and Drink/Chocolates

There is an impressive menu to choose from in this year’s offering from Morrisons, who have also included a fully vegan range.

Starters include mussels in red wine, a vegan chorizo palmier, camembert with tear and share bread, and garlic stuffed mushrooms.

Follow with a main and two sides, with options including beef wellington and a leek and mushroom vegan bake.

Finish with a delicious dessert – will it be the tarte au citron or the salted caramel profiteroles?

And finally, opt for either a bottle of red, white, rose, prosecco, or a soft drink.

Morrisons also have the option to chose from truffles, or Marc de Champagne truffles, if you don’t fancy the drink.

Asda’s Valentine’s Day Meal Deal

Cost – £15

What’s included? – Starter, Main, Two Sides, Dessert, and Drink or Chocolates

Asda has included a full vegan menu for the first time this year. So if you follow a plant-based diet you can tuck into a meal of duckless spring rolls or vegan burgers, and end with chocolate and raspberry hearts.

Meat and fish eaters have a wide range too. You can choose a starter of runny scotch eggs, prawns, or camembert.

Main courses include ravioli, lamb shanks, scallops, and prawns or steaks, with sides that include cheddar mash, and triple cooked chips.

Toffee pots, panna cotta, or dark chocolate puddings? Which dessert will take your fancy?

There is a wide range of wines and soft drinks available to complement your romantic meal!

Marks & Spencers

Cost – £20

What’s included? – Starter, Main, Side, Dessert, and a bottle of fizz or box of chocs

As the founders of the ‘dine in for £10’ M&S have done it again, with a great offering this year. Like the other leading supermarkets, there is an entire vegan option for you to choose from.

M&S starters include duck croquettes, vegan mushroom pate, a salmon sharing platter, and melting cheese oatcakes, while their mains feature duck breast and rack of lamb.

They have also included the M&S ‘Love Linguine’ 50cm long pasta in a chilli and basil sauce, British pork meatballs, and a smattering of parmesan cheese.

Sides include cauliflower cheese, truffle mash, chips, frites, and asparagus.

M&S is the only supermarket to offer a cheeseboard in their range of desserts that also include churros, jelly, and cheesecake.

As a little something extra this year, M&S has put together a Colin and Connie love hamper (£30). Delivered to your door this gift bag includes Colin and Connie caterpillar cakes, a packet of mini Colins, and four bags of Colin sweets.

M&S has pulled out all the stops this year and is also offering to deliver a Valentine’s Breakfast in Bed (£30). This fabulous treat includes the infamous ‘love sausage’ heart-shaped crumpets, coffee and peach, and passionfruit bellini.

Waitrose Meal Deal

Cost – £20

What’s included? – Starter, Main, Two Sides, Drink or box of chocolates.

This meal deal is by far the ‘swankiest’ dine-in deals if you are really wanting to impress.

With dishes from Heston Blumenthal’s range, the eleven starters include a bloody Mary prawn cocktail, chicken liver parfait, onion, and vintage cheddar tartlets and vegan melts.

There are twelve mains to choose from, so if it’s the coq au vin, the venison steaks with chocolate butter, the vegan filo swirls, or the yellowfin tuna steak, Waitrose certainly has the food to impress!

You can choose two of the thirteen sides to accompany your main. These include Parmentier potatoes, cauliflower and kale couscous, and spinach mornay.

And if that wasn’t enough, there are eleven desserts, so will you choose the expresso martini chocolate tortes or the chocolate praline hearts?

Sainsburys Valentine’s Meal Deal

Cost – £20

What’s included? – Starter, Main, Side, Dessert, Wine or Chocolate.

Sainsbury’s have upped their game this year, offering the biggest selection of all the supermarkets.

Thirteen starters including oysters, smokehouse salmon, butternut rosti stack, and rainbow trout pate begin your culinary experience.

Sea bass, beef bourguignon, mussels, and a nut roast make up just some of the eighteen mains on offer.

Seven of the eight desserts are from the GU range, including their chocolate melting puds and key lime pie.

You can also choose between biscuit batter, salted caramel truffles, or a bottle of wine.

Other Supermarket Deals

Co-Op – £15: Starter, Main, Side, Dessert, and Drink.

Iceland – £8: Main and two Sides.
